Van KeLaita - BT
with texts by Prof. Klaus Honnef & Dr. Ulrike Kasper

Van KeLaita creates photographic images that do not look like photographic images. It takes some time before the viewer identifies details, which initiate, at best, a vague recognition, yet, never being able to completely finalize it. KeLaita's work cuts the very string which connects them with the visible reality. KeLaita's work creates an intensity of physicality that is beyond the terrain of photography, it transforms the body beyond its physical dimension into an idea, a concept. The essence of a body without its physical representation.

The book was published on the occasion of an exhibition in the Galerie-Förster in 2012

BT is available for free download for iPad here. A video can be seen here.

John Pollak
Connections

The photographer John Pollak presents portraits of people who have something to do with each other. Formal rigor and reduction makes it difficult to read something in it on the quick. Nevertheless you may interrelate automatically. When the viewer learns about connection and meaning his perception is changing and new levels open up.

The catalogue was published on the occasion of the exhibition "John Pollak – Connectrions" in the Galerie-Förster. You can order the catalogue at Galerie Förster.

Shai Saul
Behind All This

The Israeli artist Shai Saul explores the forces and dynamics that make our world. He is studying the fingerprints left in the landscape, the slightest foothold, a kernel from which a comprehensive perception of the world may develop, and the evolvement of his own understanding of his place in that world.

The catalogue was published on the occasion of the exhibition "Shai Saul – Behind All This Some Great Happiness Is Hiding" in the Galerie-Förster. You can order the catalogue at Galerie Förster.

John Pollak
Stranded Goods

The large prints of John Pollaks black-and-white photography are showing finds from the Pacific Ocean. There are fine details of the severe and uniform still lifes which reveal their differences. Time and force of nature have changed the appearance of the portrayed objects. Implying mysteries, they allow a hunch of eternity.

The catalogue was published on the occasion of the exhibition "John Pollak – Stranded Goods" in the Galerie-Förster. You can order the catalogue at Galerie Förster.

Ute Krautkremer
Plastic Works

The sculptor Ute Krautkremer uses in her imaginative objects castings of real things, made of paper. She combines these forms in a free way with painted surfaces. The  experimental dealing with fortuity assists her organized and time-consuming work. There are mysterious bas-relief objects and free hanging objects, resembling strange birds, moving in a breeze. They don’t dictate stories but invite the viewer to develop his own associations.

The catalogue was published on the occasion of the exhibition “Ute Krautkremer – Plastic Works” in the Galerie-Förster. You can order the catalogue at Galerie Förster.

Shai Saul
Three Oaks

At first glance, Shai Saul’s large color prints suggest almost abstract forms, but on closer examination reveal themselves as depictions of man’s intervention in real landscapes. While the mysterious beauty of the structures, their formal harmony and delicate coloring are fascinating, at the same time the obvious and violent changes which men impose on nature appear shocking. Mysterious, almost sublime buildings turn out to be harbingers of the destruction of the landscape.

Shai Saul’s approach to his art is philosophical, offering the viewer an abundance of further thoughts and feelings. The work’s aesthetic is as fascinating as the message underlying it.

The catalogue was published on the occasion of the exhibition “Shai Saul – Three Oaks” in the Galerie-Förster. You can order the catalogue at Galerie Förster.

John Pollak
Form & Matter

John Pollak’s new work deals with abstract forms and structure. He is interested in the interaction of the two dimensional abstraction of the photography and the meaning of the presented picture, which is not immediately revealed to the viewer. With the awareness of the sense a new way of perception opens up.

The Holocaust Memorial, conceived by Peter Eisenman and presented to the Berlin public in May 2005, is the subject of this new series of photography. Each picture detail, which partly just consists of geometrical fields of different gray scales, makes possible to feel something severe and monumental and to intuit silentness and finality. A hint to the subject helps the viewer to get a lot of different, further sensations.

The catalogue was published on the occasion of the exhibition "John Pollak - Form & Matter" in the Galerie Förster. You can order the catalogue at Galerie Förster.

Birgit Knappe
WAS ICH SEHE

This catalogue came up in the context with the exhibition “Birgit Knappe” in the Gallery Forster.

All her new sculptures of stone are presented in the catalogue, also bas-relief work made by corrugated cardboard and drawings.

As interaction the writer and poet Birgit Müller-Wieland read poems at the opening, to which she was inspired by the exhibited work.

Mady Piesold
Flugbilder, Stadtkörper &anderes

This catalogue came up in the context with the exhibition “Mady Piesold” in the Gallery Forster.

Mady Piesold, born 1979 in Riesa, tries to explore in her paintings the various forms of city life, seen from extreme high points of view. The structure of a city, formed by humans, appears to her as the organism of a gigantic living being. The young artist finds an expression for this phenomenon by using experimental techniques. Besides painting and graphic design Mady Piesold devotes her time to making short satirical films. She creates her own figures and stage sets, does the animation and the acting, writes the music and does the synchronizing herself. Her films are a sensual impressive experience for an audience. During the opening her film "The Palace" was shown, which won an award at the International Festival of Satirical Film 2008, "34. Eulenspiegeleien".

Alvin Booth
Osmosis

"Alvin Booths gift, is alarming in its intimacy because he lets us see what he sees. There is tenderness and a hint of sadness in his photographs of women, seen as though slumbering in a latex cocoon. It is a private vision shared, of (women)s suspended, as though caught after falling from a great height, an impossible, privileged view … Here is the female form in all its bright life, a brightness accentuated by the contrast introduced by splashes of sleep and shadow." , John Krakauer 2006 “… Alvin Booth impresses his own secret theatre of the imagination upon what his prints are showing us, the last stage of the process seems to be that he creates in so much of his work the vision of an idealised female form …”, Peter Hamilton Nach CORPUS (Kodak Foto Buch Preis 1999)

Alvin Booths neues Meisterwerk.

Alvin Booth
Corpus

The body as both a playground of pleasure and battlefield of desire and restraint is a recurring theme in Alvin Booth's tableaux, which evoke the eroticism of bondage and fetishism. Yet the carnal aspects of these images are mediated with playful exuberance and a formal approach that underscores the beauty and craft of the artist's work. The sepia tones and grainy textures of his pictures are reminiscent of techniques used in early photography.
