Birgit Knappe

Birgit Knappe was born in Bad Oldesloe, Schleswig-Holstein. She is living and working in Berlin and Brandenburg.


1976 - 1982 Student at the University of Arts, Berlin
1988 - 1992 Teacher for sculpture at the University of Arts, Berlin
1994 - 1997 guest professorship for sculpture at the Humboldt-University, Berlin
since 1982 free and commissioned work for inner and outer spaces


1986 - 1988 fellowship of the Karl Hofer-Society, Berlin
1993 fellowship of the Villa Serpentara in Italy (Academy of Arts, Berlin) and fellowship of the Artist’s House Selk, (government of Schleswig-Holstein)
1994 fellowship of Ekely in Norway (ministry of culture, Schleswig- Holstein)
1997 fellowship in the Artist’s Studios of Tel Aviv, Israel
2001 fellowship Artist’s House Lukas ( foundation of the cultural fonds)
